New Kilbowie Park on Friday, August 4th, 1967

A crowd of about 8000 were at Kilbowie Park to see Bankies play English FA Cup finalists Chelsea in a friendly game and curtain raiser to the season.The town council were there as were some of Chelsea's supporters who had travelled up to see their team face Aberdeen earlier in the week.Chelsea did not win at Pittodrie and surprisingly they did not win at Kilbowie either. Nicky Little missed out on a hat trick of penalty goals as his third spot kick of the evening was saved by the feet of Auchinleck’s Andy Leishman. Little had earlier put two past Leishman as the Bankies clawed back a two goal deficit, only to lose out late on to the fourth penalty award of the night which was duly converted by Gordon Pope.
