Match Report

Bankies travelled to Love Street last Wednesday on League Cup business to tackle St Mirren. A near 3000 crowd saw the Buddies attack from the start with McKean prominent.

Their midfield build up looked good but they lacked penetration up front. Bankies seemed to let St Mirren come at them, obviously they had been looking for a draw.

The closest to a goal came in the 25th minute when Borthwick hit a glorious 20yard drive which struck Gallacher's left hand post and rebounded to safety.

After the interval, the continued along the same course, play being contained mostly to the Bankies Half.

St Mirren took a deserved lead on the hour when Third ran onto a perfect through pass from McKean and hammered the ball past Jim Gallacher from 12 yards.

This goal finally spurred Clydebank into life and with Ian Law replacing Andy Roxburgh they began to come more into the match.

Phil McGovern was very prominent in attack running hard at the St Mirren defence. However other forwards were having an off night, Larnach replaced a disappointing Joe Hughes after 70 minutes.

His presence seemed to spark new life into his side and two drives from Law were just wide. Sadly, however, time ran out as Bankies strived for the equaliser that their second half rally probably deserved.

Had Bankies played the whole match the way the did the last half hour they would surely have achieved the draw that they obviously played for.
