Match Report
A crowd numbering about 3,000 viewed the opening League game at Kilbowie Park, Clydebank. Changes were numerous on both sides from last season’s elevens, which, however, were considered for the better. Clydebank won the toss and Cunningham (Strathclyde) set the game in motion.
The home team at once found their bearings, and in about two minutes - McClonie, late Benburb, beat Allan Strathclyde's new goalkeeper, with a lovely shot. The Juniors continued to hold the upper hand for a time, without further success, however, and in due course the Strathclyde got a little more settled in their methods, but could make nothing of the home team's defence. The Juniors then came away strong once more, and after Brander had a point disallowed for a previous infringement he put on the home team's second goal with an unsaveable shot.
The second half was opened in spirited style by both sides; the Juniors played up much better against the wind than what their opponents had done. The game had not been long resumed when McClonie again beat Allan, and put his side three up. The Strathclyde then improved somewhat, and carried play into McTurk's quarters for a considerable time, but that player was all there, and saved several likely tries. The play remained in home quarters for a considerable time but ultimately the Juniors drove off the eager Strathclyde. Time arrived with the Juniors worthy winners by 3 goals to nothing.
