Match Report
One of the keenest and cleverest Junior League matches I have witnessed for a long time resulted from the meeting of Maryhill and Clydebank at the latter's ground. From start to finish the play was maintained at a high standard, and it says much for the quality of the defence divisions that only one goal and that in the last ten minutes of the game was scored during the afternoon. Up to a quarter of an hour from the end the Juniors looked the more likely lot to score, for they were wonderfully keen and strongly aggressive, but just then Hemphill enabled Wakeman to effect a magnificent save, only to be beaten a minute or two later by the same player. The home men worked desperately for a goal, but could not break down Maryhill's grand defence, and in the last five minutes the visitors narrowly missed adding to their total.
The backs and goalkeepers were all first class, and Walker is to be congratulated on his return to the field. Wilson could not do himself justice owing to indisposition, but Drain and Stevenson were first-class. Among a rather moderate lot of forwards Jamieson and Muir were best. For Clydebank Wakeman saved several fine shots in great style, and McLean and Breslin performed well. A cleverer and trickier half back line is not to be found in the League, and if only the Juniors could shoot better their goal record would go up with a bang. Gray was the most effective player, but France and Leitch also played very well.
