Match Report

This final tie in the Dumbartonshire Junior Cup was played off at St. James Park, Dumbarton, in the presence of what was probably the biggest turnout of spectators ever seen at a junior match in Dumbarton. Unfortunately, the Yoker's hamper had been carried on to Helensburgh, and consequently the game was late in starting. It was fully forty minutes after the advertised time when Shepherd started the game for Yoker. As was expected, the play was of the keenest possible description, and both teams put forth their greatest efforts to open the scoring, but the defence on both sides was admirably maintained, and when the interval arrived there were no goals to be credited to either team. In the opening stages of the second half Yoker were keenly aggressive, but many good chances were lost by over-anxiety on the part of the front rankers. Fifteen minutes from time Yoker scored through Wilkinson, but offside robbed them of the point, which was well deserved on point of play. Yoker kept up the pressure, but Wakeman was saving in fine style. Yoker were the better team in the second half, but the game ended in a draw, no goals being scored by either team.
