Match Report

All things considered - the elements, the comparatively poor attendance, and the even nature of the game - no more satisfactory result than a draw could have been desired. In the opening minutes Strathclyde exhibited brilliant footwork against the wind, and Wakeman had a busy time parrying shots from all directions, but the Juniors soon demonstrated that long kicking and fast following up was the more effective style of play for the day. For the major portion of this half Strathclyde were kept on the defensive, and the Beechwood defence deserve every credit for crossing over with a clean sheet. In the second half the boot was on the other foot, Strathclyde with the advantage of the wind doing most of the pressing, but, like their opponents, their shooting for goal was not of a deadly nature. The Juniors made several dangerous raids into their opponents territory, but failed to overcome the vigilance of Slavin and his backs. Towards the finish both goals had narrow escapes from downfall, but the respective keepers refused to be beaten. The game, is not a scientific exhibition, was brimful of excitement from start to finish, and the re-play is certain to be a scorcher.
