Biography
Diminutive little winger who arrived at Kilbowie with wingers Gerry O’Brien, Jimmy Caskie, John McGunnigle and Eddie Rutherford already on the books and fighting for game time. He had little chance to succeed. Brian made his debut on 2 November 1968 in a 2-2 draw at home to Stranraer. We had the bizarre situation of Eddie Rutherford playing out right, Brian Sheerin played outside left and Jimmy Caskie wearing the No. 9 jersey.
Unfortunately for Brian, his next game which would be his last, was to be two weeks later, against a wonderful Motherwell team who would be crowned Champions of League 2 that season. Clydebank were hammered 4-0 at Kilbowie, with the score being kept at a reasonable level thanks to the heroics of the trialist goalie John Brady. Brian was no worse than any of the other forwards that day, but was hooked after an hour and replaced by Gerry O’Brien.
There was to be no more game time for Brian and he was reinstated back to the Juniors and joined Vale of Leven. He was to help the Vale win the ‘B’ Division Championship in season 1969/70 with further success gained in winning The Evening Times Trophy and The Erskine Charity Cup that season. His teammates would include ex Bankie Tom Connelly and Drew Busby who would cause Clydebank problems in future years.
