Match Report
This important tie in the fourth round of the National Cup was played on Saturday at Kilbowie Park in favourable weather. Arniston are always reckoned on to put up a stiff fight, and as the teams were about equally matched, a keen game was expected. This anticipation was responsible for a record turn-out of spectators. At the start the home lot raided the Rangers territory, but Kinghorn cleverly sent them to the right about. They were soon back again but this time Ritchie averted disaster. Arniston now got away, and Breslin was called on to clear the Juniors' lines. This was followed by Winning making brilliant effort from twelve yards out, but the ball went over.
Clydebank's play fell away completely, and save a few spasmodic breakaways, there was nothing brilliant in their play. Arniston improved, and repeated efforts were made to score, but the home backs kept them well in check. The interval arrived without any scoring on either side. The Juniors immediately assumed the aggressive at the restart, and ten minutes later McKay, with the assistance of Spence, had the ball in the net. This reverse was the Rangers' downfall, for instead of striving to equalise, they seemed to lose their heads, and France had no difficulty in securing a second goal. But for the ability of Kinghorn, the Arniston custodian, the Juniors would have still further augmented their score. In the second half Clydebank were clearly the superior team.
