Match Report

Clydebank and Petershill shared the spoils in this competitive top of the table league clash at Holm Park. Two goals at the start of the second half were the scoring action as David Galt cancelled out Ross McPherson’s opener. The Bankies may have shaded it overall, but there was never that much to choose between the sides.

The Bankies were back to more familiar lines with only Ross Campbell and Paul Bell missing from the starting line up. Despite the lack of goalmouth action the first half was quite entertaining as it was more of a power struggle in the midfield as both teams tried, and ultimately failed, to gain dominance. A trickle of half chances was all that could be mustered with Ross McPherson not being able to steer home a fine Tommy Martin cross, and Ian Gold having an angled shot well stopped by White.

Unfortunately, the one piece of genuine skill in the first half fell victim to the lineman’s flag. Joe Andrew worked a superb one two with Ross McPherson, and the former nicely prodded the ball into the net. The assistant referee saw otherwise however, as he judged McPherson to be offside when he received the initial pass.

The Bankies took the lead in the opening moments of the second period when a Ross McPherson free kick on the left was missed by everyone and went into the net via the back post.

It wasn’t long before Petershill were level. Robert Hamilton made a great stop from a Murch shot, but wasn’t able to recover in time to stop David Galt from slamming home the rebound.

The torrential rain that poured down for the entire second half didn’t help the flow of the game. Seven players were booked, and unfortunately there were nowhere near as many clear cut chances in front of goal. The best of those that did come were for Clydebank with a deflected Berry shot well saved by White, and Moffat could possibly have done better with a headed effort.

Overall, it was a decent performance and a point is not a terrible result. Petershill looked a good strong outfit and don’t look like they will concede many this season. Both managers will be relatively pleased with the outcome as Clydebank still top the table and both sides remain unbeaten.
