Due to the depleted size of the first team pool, only the substitutes from the Premier League match against Rangers were added to the reserve squad who were used in this cup tie.
The youngsters faced a tough match against a Shire side who topped the Second Division coming into this game.
The Bankies played some nice flowing football in the early stages with several chances made but not taken. Finally, Mike Conroy opened the scoring with a close-in header.
Conroy was a constant threat with able support from Charlie Gibson playing against his former side.
Shortly before half time John Davies increased the Bankies lead as he swept home a cross cum shot from Vinnie Moore.
The second half was again full of good open football and Conroy latched on to Moore pass to net his second. Minutes later Conroy completed his hat trick to seal the result.
With his return to goalscoring form, Conroy was withdrawn with a view to first team duties. Shire rallied near the end and grabbed a consolation through substitute Harley.
