Match Report

Clydebank Press

In spite of an encouraging two goals in a minute burst by centre Jimmy Hodgson and winger Tommy McGhee, Clydebank dismally faded against Partick Thistle Reserves on Saturday at Kilbowie Park.

It took the visitors a while before recovering from the Bankies 60 second blitz but eventually they settled and a spectacular two desperate goals before the interval were cleverly scored by Thistle's centre forward Brownlee.

Despite the muddy conditions of the pitch Clydebank from the start went full out... the pressure being so great that they snapped up these two games before the game was six minutes old.

The first netted by Jimmy Hodgson - replacing Tom Connelly who has an injured foot - was plunged homewards from close range giving keeper McLaughlin no chance. The second follow one minute later when once again Hodgson opened the Thistle defence to give his colleague, left winger McGhee, an easy chance to head home.

After a spell Thistle came back into the game and twice Conway's shots struck the crossbar. Then in the 22nd minute Brownlee collected a loose ball in front of Clydebank's goal and pulled one back for Thistle.

Seconds before the interval Brownlee again knocked home to score the visitors equaliser. He did a repeat performance of his previous goal.

At the restart Thistle took control and commenced a pounding on the Bankies goal. The visitors forwards would have definitely scored except for the superb display by keeper Wilson who kept the numerous flow of accurate shots at bay.

On several occasions Wilson was caught off his mark but luck seemed against the Thistle side and golden opportunities were carelessly tossed away.

Clydebank endeavoured to retaliate but their efforts were in vain. In the 64th minute Hodgson placed the ball in the net to put Clydebank ahead but to the disappointment of the small crowd referee Marshall gave an offside decision.

Then in the final ten minutes of the game disaster hit the home team when a chance of victory was snatched from their grasp. Winger Flannigan and Kilpatrick slammed home with a goal each to win the match.

Flannigan and Kilpatrick netted their goals in a similar fashion from close range after outwitting several defence players, leaving keeper Wilson helpless.
