Eddie Jenkins was a Left Half (No.6) signed from junior side Maryhill Harp famous for producing Bertie Auld of Celtic fame. Eddie in his two seasons with Clydebank had too much competition for that Number six shirt. Ernie Columbine wore it and ended up in the Number 4 shirt. Tommy McGhee, was a natural in that shirt but eventually ended up in the Number 9 shirt as he was always thrown up front as Clydebank chased the game. John Baxter wore the shirt but was shifted all over the park to plug whatever slot needed cover.
As for Eddie Jenkins he was thrown up front in the Number 8 shirt. He was a fair headed player so always stood out in a match. He was an ever present in a very rocky first season for Clydebank as Mr Steedman chopped and changed trying to find his best team. It is to Eddie’s credit that he played so many matches. He was a combative player but was never any threat to the opposing goalkeeper.
For some reason Eddie found himself following out of favour in his second season and for him had the strange sensation of sitting on the bench for the first time in his Clydebank career. A 4-0 defeat at Arbroath in January 1968 was to see the end of Eddie Jenkins Clydebank career. He was freed at the end of the season.
