Arthur Paterson was a fast, tricky, exciting old fashioned winger who was a good crosser of the ball and had an eye for goal. He had a very short career at Clydebank which saw him appear as much on the substitute’s bench as he did on the park. There was a suspicion that the tight confines of Kilbowie did not suit his style of play. He was a dangerous player and a clever player but for some unexplained reason he was released at the end of the season.
Arthur Paterson won a Junior Scottish Cup winners medal with Irvine Meadow XI scoring in the final. He won a Second Division winners medal with Ayr United at a time when there were only two divisions in Scottish Football and he won a Junior Scottish Cup winners medal with Cambuslang Rangers three times, scoring in one of the finals. He also has a Scottish Junior Cup runners up medal with Cambuslang when they were beaten by his old club Irvine Meadow XI.
