Match Report

Clydebank fielded their new signing, goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie, in place of the injured Gallacher for their League Cup tie against East Stirling at Kilbowie Park.

From the kick off Clydebank attacked and within the first 12 minutes could have been three goals up. A shot from Mike Larnach was deflected inches past the post by Adams and from the resulting corner it was again the blonde centre whose well controlled shot was just over the bar.

By this time Clydebank were well on top with Mike Larnach in particular proving a danger. A good move by Caskie put McColl right through and only a great save by Gourlay kept the score line blank.

Bankies continued their aggressive play and Davie Cooper almost scored in the 22nd minute when his free kick rebounded off the East Stirling wall and he let rip with a thunderous shot that finished inches wide. For all their superiority Bankies failed to find the net and just on the half time whistle East Stirling made their first attack of the match. Good midfield play by the Shire allowed Meakin a thunderbolt shot which had McKenzie fully stretched to concede a corner.

Clydebank opened the second half playing into the wind and were immediately on the attack. A good dribble by Cooper saw the ball rebound off the post and great shots by Caskie and McColl forced Gourlay to bring off good saves.

Houston replaced Caskie in the 57th minute and from a free kick immediately after, Bankies deservedly took the lead. Goodwin passed to Houston who touched on for McCallan to crack the ball into the net from 14 yards.

Bankies were stunned in the 70th minute when East Stirling equalised against the run of play. Substitute Steen rose to meet a Mullin cross and gave McKenzie no chance with a strong header- but where was the Clydebank defence?

The end result was a disappointment for the home fans but surely they could hardly complain about the quality of Bankies play.
