Match Report

Clydebank Press

Monday night saw a really good friendly at Kilbowie Park, a friendly in the true sense, sporting good clean football from the 'Bankies and the 'Frew select.

Much to everyone's surprise it was the visitors who took the initiative, moving the ball with considerable skill through the Bankies lines, but their efforts came to nothing.

The Babes seemed to realise these were no beginners they were playing, for they began to put some earnest play back into the match. Munro in particular kept 'Frew's defence. worried with his continual shots at goal, all of which proved too wide.

Munro's efforts bore fruit in the 20th minute when he again roared down the wing and slammed a shot right into the net.

The Juveniles retaliated with a dazzling display of football, moving the ball right up to the 'Bankies' goalmouth. But no matter how they tried they just could not position the ball for a shot at goal.

A near thing, for Clydebank came in the 30th minute when 'Frew's Manson sent the ball flying, only to miss by inches.

The Juveniles never let the pressure die down. But they never had the patience to wait and make sure of the ball before they lashed out.

Almost at half-time one of the shots did see the back of the net. A series of passes, and a mistake by the trialist keeper, let left-winger Forrest gently tap the ball into the net.

The 'Bankies stormed out to start the second half and put on pressure which was to continue all through the rest of the game.

After the opening moments the game settled down to a continual harassment of the 'Frew goal. In ten minutes Caskie launched himself at the ball and sent it screaming into the back of the visitors' net.

'Frew were just not in the second half. They were completely out-classed by the 'Bankie Babes who could do nothing wrong.

A further ten minutes into the game saw Ruddy take a ball from McGhee and slam a shot home. A minute later McGhee himself took the initiative and scored.

Even with this lead, the game was always played to the full, Clydebank still keeping on the pressure until the final whistle.

Although Renfrewshire had many excellent players, they all seemed to lack the confidence of the 'Bankies. Many mistakes were made by the juveniles, and if they had ken their time over their shots, they could have easily forced a draw.

A really worthwhile game and a joy to watch two teams really enjoying a "friendly friendly."

As for the trialists in Clydebank? They proved they could be worthwhile additions to the team.
