For their opening League Cup match, Clydebank traveled to Arbroath. McCallan and Larnach were both fit and included in the side. Arbroath started aggressively and, twice in the opening minutes Clydebank's offside tactics almost lost them a goal.
Yule and Campbell should have done better than miss from six yards. Clydebank's reply was a Caskie shot that Wilson saved well.
The home side had Bankies at full stretch with Jimmy Bone a danger. His 20 yarder in the 24th minute forced Gallacher to concede a corner, from which the big centre headed narrowly wide.
Arbroath deservedly took the lead in the 35thminute. Campbell put a great ball through to Yule which split Bankies defence and the winger scored easily.
Clydebank hit back after this and McColl caused panic in the home defence, who were at full stretch to concede a fruitless corner.
Bankies had their best spell after this and a cooper header and a Larnach shot were only inches away.
A wasted free kick by Bankies put their defence in trouble, but Gallacher held Bone's shot.
Clydebank kept playing away and a great ball from Cooper gave Caskie a chance. But a great save from Wilson kept Bankies score sheet blank.
The decisive point of the match came in the 60th minute. Gallacher had no option but to pull Bone down as he was about to score and the big centre made no mistake from the spot.
Bankies brought on Lumsden for Larnach, but Arbroath were now well in control.
In the closing minutes, Arbroath asserted their authority with two further goals. In the 87th minute Yule netted from a Bone cross and with the last kick of the ball Bone notched his second from a disputed penalty.
The final score-line probably flattered Arbroath, for Bankies had held their own until the second goal, but they are obviously short of match practice.
