Match Report

Clydebank Press

Yet another sad defeat for the Bankies. At Kilbowie Park on Wednesday night, they played some good football, but luck wasn't with them.

Against the run of play Queens opened the scoring. Whitehead headed a long pass down on to the feet of Struthers who blasted the ball past Madden.

The second goal came in the 41st minute when Whitehead headed in a McKay cross, after Madden had fluffed a clearance.

Ten minutes into the second half and, Queens increased their lead through Whitehead. He netted the ball after it had rebounded from Madden.

Clydebank's only counter came in the 64th minute when Caskie hammered in a low shot after excellent work by Love, Munro and Nelson.

Although the Bankies tried hard to come back into the game, Queens stood firm for the remainder of the game.

Clydebank's best men were Wilson, Gray and Love. Tops for Queens were Struthers, McKay and Hume.

Glasgow Herald

After a game that produced phases of good football and left Clydebank still searching for their first home league win of the season, Queen's Park deservedly collected both points last night at Kilbowie Park.

From the moment Struthers put Queen's Park into the lead in five minutes with a shot hit on the half volley, the writing was on the wall.

Clydebank, less aggressive and slower than their opponents, tried desperately to get into the game, but the highlight of the frustrating first half for them was a shot from Caskie which Jackson saved well.

By contrast, Queen's Park were all hustle and bustle and after Madden had parried efforts by Hume and Whitehead the latter increased the visitors' lead in 40 minutes.

The game continued to favour Queen's Park in the second period and although Caskie did manage to get one back for Clydebank in the 63rd minute it was of little consequence as Whitehead had taken Queen's Park's total to three nine minutes earlier.

Daily Record

Clydebank must still be wondering how they were two goals down at the interval to Queen's Park at Kilbowie last night.

Their play was very fast and they looked a stronger team than they have done for several weeks.

But it was Queen's who took the initiative and who on their first assault on the home team's goal, went ahead. Struthers, the inside-right, provided the finish to a Whitehead cross and lobbed it past Madden after only five minutes.

With five minutes to go in the first period, the Queen's centre forward Whitehead headed a McKay cross into the net.

Another Queen's Park attacking move after 10 minutes play in the second-half paid off. Whitehead scored after a shot from Struthers was punched out by keeper Madden.
