Match Report

Left-winger Ian Stewart put his side back on the winning trail again. Ian scored two of the homesters' goals and had a hand in the third. It was only Stewart's second full game since he broke his leg last winter, but he was pretty near his tantalising best.

Clydebank were dangerous in the initial stages and the Forfar keeper had to look lively to save from Caskie. The Loons had hard luck in their first raid when a header from Dick rebounded from the bar. Then Wyles missed gift when he headed over an open goal with the Clydebank keeper stranded on the 18-yard line

Clydebank almost scored through McGhee, who burst through the middle, only to be fouled by the advancing Philip. Only brilliant dive by Madden saved Clydebank When a shot by Mackle looked a certain scorer.

In 18 minutes, Forfar went ahead. A long ball found STEWART in the clear and the winger ran through to set with net with a low shot.

Forfar got their second goal in 32 minutes when a corner kick by Mackie was headed home in no uncertain fashion by STEWART. Almost immediately, Clydebank reduced the Leeway through O'Brien following good play by McGhee. A great dribble and shot by McGunnigle almost got the equaliser.

In 41 minutes, DICK scored a third for Forfar, when Madden failed to clutch a high ball, and the centre had only to tap the ball in.

McGhee missed a grand chance for the visitors just after half time when he failed to net from close range. Clydebank continued to play clever football but never got near enough to get in a telling shot.

There was a let-off for Forfar, however, when Caskie crossed a low ball which beat the home defence, but there was no one up to take advantage.

Clydebank brought on McMillan at centre in attempt to challenge strong centre half play of Milne.

Bankies had a clever inside trio, whose dribbling was very much better than Forfar's. But they lacked marksmen to take advantage of the confusion which they spread in the home defence.
