Match Report

"Sunny" Jim Caskie, complete with a new bright orange strip, was man of the match. His goal in the second half, which won the game for the Bankies, was easily the best seen at Kilbowie this season.

In the 72nd minute Jim brought the ball down the left wing and took on the entire Hamilton defence on his own. He beat them by one by one, with a brilliant display of dribbling and hammered ball into the net from inside the area,

This goal put the home team on top of the world down shortly, after being 1-0 shortly after half-time.

The first half was goal-less but it was still composed of some pretty volatile stuff. Stiff refereeing prevented the game from erupting into a good old "set-to."

Two Hamilton players had their names taken in the first half, Fraser and Goodwin, and one or two other players, on both sides, deserved the same treatment.

Clydebank had opened well, forcing four corners in the first five minutes. But the Hamilton defence was as solid as it is possible to be and none of the Clydebank attempts managed to find their way into the back of the net.

In a break down the wing, from this series of corners, outside-left McRobert, Hamilton player of the day, burst through a surprised Clydebank defence to find himself faced with an open goal.

He must have felt rather poorly afterwards, as the ball missed its target and flew past the right upright.

O'Brien and McGhee of Clydebank were both playing well, both having a number of good chances in the first half, but much of the credit must go to Bobby Love. He did a great job manufacturing moves and feeding the other Clydebank forwards.

The seating area for Hamilton officials erupted in the 25th minute when the visitors had a goal disallowed. From a free kick just outside the area Goodwin passed a long cross over the Clydebank backs to Clark who sent a beautiful header past Mick McDonald. Presumably the referee, Mr. J. R. Grant, thought Clark was offside, the goal was disallowed.

It was just after this that Goodwin was booked for a heavy tackle on Munro. Fraser was booked after Mr. Grant consulted one of his linesmen.

The second half opened with a burst of fast exciting play. Hamilton were let off the hook just after the whistle when Alan Munro ran on to the ball as it bounced across an open Hamilton goalmouth. 'Keeper Young was at the wrong end of the sticks eating dirt.

Left-half Gilchrist managed to run in and slide it out for a corner. In his brave attempt to save he battered his head off the left upright but was able to play on, a little stunned perhaps.

The Hamilton goal followed a great run by little McRobert. He split the Clydebank defence wide open and scored with a low 20 yarder that left Mick McDonald seeing stars.

Denis Ruddy can be a hard player at the best of times, but he paid dearly for these tactics just after this goal. McRobert was making a good run down the centre of the field when Ruddy unleashed a vicious tackle that sent the wee Accies forward into orbit. Ruddy was booked.

The Hamilton lead was short lived. Ten minutes later Tommy McGhee caught the visitors on the hop and nodded home a lovely lob from a Caskie corner on the left wing.

In the 72nd minute "Sunny Jim" had a go himself and put homesters into the lead. That's where they stayed until the end of the match.

Both teams played substitutes in the second half, Paul McMillan was brought on for Bobby Love, of Clydebank, and Curley was played in place of Brown.
