Clydebank played close, clever football, while Stenhousemuir relied mainly on the long ball. In the end, however, neither tactic overcame the soggy conditions. With Kilbowie Park in remarkably fine condition after the overnight downpour, Clydebank went straight into the attack, moving the ball with considerable ease through Stenhousemuir's forward line.
The Bankies first attempt at goal was unsuccessful when Ruddy weaved his way through the defence and hammered a shot to goal, only to see it disappearing over the bar.
Startled by this attack, Muir stormed back; Frew almost netted with a flying header, sending the ball straight into the hands of Madden.
As the drizzle continued the going got heavier and heavier until it was more a game against the pitch than each other.
Bankies outside left Caskie played a superlative shot for goal, beating three defenders on the way, only to see the ball turned round the post by 'keeper Roberts.
The bad weather was now beginning to take its toll; both sides became edgy and irritable, making a lot of bad mistakes. Passing became more of an effort and both teams seemed to lack co-ordinance.
The only near-thing in the first half came when R. Thomson of Muir sent a shot cracking off the bar.
This game became increasingly boring as it neared half-time and the break came as a relief both to the spectators and the teams.
Although the second half was as equally boring as the first, in all fairness it must be said that it was the Bankies who made all the moves.
A moment of excitement came in the 50th minute when Love shot for goal from 35 yards, but once again Robertson blocked the ball.
A moment of danger for Muir came in the 70th minute when Robertson caught a header from Munro.
The fans showed their displeasure by leaving long before the full-time. Maybe the fans have come to expect too much from the Bankie Babes following their recent performances, but on Saturday many people were very disappointed in them.
Later manager Jack Steedman said: "I thought it was a good, tight game. It seemed a question of who was going to put the ball in the net, and nobody did.”

How the other side saw it
----------------------------------
In one of the roughest matches seen at Kilbowie Park this season, only the woodwork kept Stenhousemuir from registering their third victory in succession.
Just on half time, the Bankies keeper punched the ball out to the feet of the onrushing Bobby Thomson, but his parting shot cannoned off the post, and the Maroons had to be content to go in for their interval on level terms.
Earlier on, in the 3rd minute, Len Frew had almost done the trick with a flying header, but Madden brought off a great save.
Both defences were on top, and in the pelting rain tempers began to fray and both trainers were kept busy tending to players who had been brought crashing down. Referee McDonald was too indifferent and at least three names should have gone into his wee black book.
Lindsay Robertson turned a Caskie shot round the post and a few moments later he again distinguished himself with a wonder save from a Munro header.
The Warriors stormed back and first Richardson, then McAllister came close to scoring.
Neither set of forwards were on top form and except for the Bobby Thomson miss, no further chances came either way in the first period.
After half time it looked for a while as if Stenhousemuir might provide one of the day's shock results but tight marking by the home defence kept them out.
In an effort to break the deadlock, both sides brought on their substitutes, but it made no difference to the pattern of the play and the longer the match progressed, the less likely seemed the chances of a goal.
Both sets of players began to indulge in "personal” wars and skill took second place to strength. For all that, though, this was a hard-earned point for the 'Muir and an encouraging result for their support.
