Match Report

Clydebank Press

Bankies started. off in devastating style, but faded badly and had to rely on a late blockbuster goal from McGunnigle to ensure both points went to Kilbowie from a match they won so easily.

Hamilton's lifeless form was in keeping with their bottom of the league position, but Bankies should have pressed home their initial advantage - an Alan Munro goal in two minutes - instead of settling for a midfield hold.

Bankies had a dream start when Munro headed home a Hay free-kick in their first raid upfield. But they couldn't capitalise on their advantage until eight minutes from the end.

McGunnigle capped a spell of concerted siege on Accies goal, where good efforts by McGunnigle, Hay and Caskie missed their target by inches, in 82 minutes. He picked up a loose ball 30 yards out, took one stride forward and sent in a rocket that gave Morrison no chance.

Two valuable points for Bankies, but it was not an entertaining game, and the sole bright spark to enthuse the 500 crowd was the individual skills of pint-sized winger Jimmy Caskie, who deserved more than anyone to have his name on the score sheet.

Twice in the first half, he had Morrison beaten but the woodwork came to Accies rescue. And in the Bankies' pressure spell in the second half, he hit a cracking drive that bounded from the underside of the bar to a defender and was hastily thumped clear.

Hay, McGhee, Munro and Caskie, with Dougie Hay spoiling an otherwise first-class, driving display by being spoken to, along with full-back McMillan, for over enthusiasm in the tackle.

Sunday Post

Clydebank won with lots to spare. Their quick build-up and accurate passing kept the Accies defence at full stretch.

Although Munro was inclined to hold the ball too long when his mates were in open position he deserves credit for a well taken goal, when he jumped high to beat the Accies defence to a Hay free kick. McGunnigle got the second eight minutes from the end.

By comparison, Accies were too deliberate and, although the Clydebank defence made a few errors, Hamilton lacked the guile and determination to take advantage.

Halpin and Gaughan played well for Accies, whilst Mitchell, McGunnigle, Love, McGhee, and Caskie stood out for a sound Clydebank side.
