Match Report

By defeating Cowdenbeath 4-0 on aggregate, Bankies go forward to meet Partick Thistle in the quarter finals. The first leg will be at Firhill on Wednesday at 7.30 and the return tie at Kilbowie a fortnight later.

Wednesday's game was very definitely a first half affair. The opening period was non-stop action, 90 per cent of which came from razor sharp Bankies.

They took the lead in the fourth minute. Cooper swung a cross which was only partially cleared by a defender. Larnach picked up the ball and volleyed home from eight yards. Then in 11 minutes the made their overall lead unassailable, when McCallan headed low and accurately past the helpless keeper. Bankies continued to dominate until the break, entertaining the 2000 fans.

The second half was treated as a training session by Bankies who although they strung some nice moves together, did not look as slick as in the first half.

However, only the woodwork and the competence of the visiting keeper kept the tally down to two.

Among the spectators was Thistle manager Bertie Auld, who told me: Clydebank are not a bad team, they play well together."

When asked if there was any particular player he feared, he replied, "No. They play so well as a team unit, and don't rely on individualists."

On this form the Bankies could well shock the Jags.
