Match Report

Montrose emerged victorious in a thrilling 5-3 encounter against Clydebank, despite a spirited fightback from the visitors in the dying minutes.

For 70 minutes, it looked like a comfortable win for Montrose. Their attacking duo of Kemp and Littlejohn proved to be a thorn in Clydebank's side. Kemp's clinical finishing saw him net two powerful first-half goals, leaving the Clydebank defence with little answer.

Montrose extended their lead further through Goodall, putting the game seemingly out of reach for Clydebank. However, the visitors refused to throw in the towel. Andy Welsh's unfortunate own goal sparked a late fightback.

The irrepressible Hawkshaw, Clydebank's star performer, pulled one back for his side, igniting a flicker of hope. It wasn't over yet, as Clydebank netted another goal in the final six minutes, but Littlejohn, completing his hat-trick for Montrose, sealed the victory for the home side.

Credit must be given to Montrose goalkeeper Stewart for a solid performance between the sticks, while Welsh and Smith shone in defence. On the Clydebank side, Dick Madden kept the score respectable with some impressive saves, ably supported by Henderson at the back.

While Montrose will be pleased to secure the win, they may be concerned about conceding three late goals. Clydebank, despite the defeat, can take heart from their never-say-die attitude and impressive fightback in the closing stages.
