Ernie Collumbine was a dogged defensive midfielder who started his career at Bo'ness United. He made the step up to the senior game joining Stenhousemuir in 1958. He spent the next four and a bit seasons at Ochilview before being signed up by East Stirlingshire. He was still at the Shire, when the ill-fated merger with Clydebank happened. Ernie made the move to the newly formed ES Clydebank and was virtually ever present at Kilbowie Park that season. After the de-merger of the two clubs in 1965 Ernie got a move to St Johnstone, but he failed to make the breakthrough at Muirton Park. When Clydebank were admitted to the league in 1966, Jack Steedman brought Ernie to the club for the second or first time depending on how you look at it. Ernie spent three seasons at Kilbowie winning the player of the year award at the end of his first season. Unfortunately, Ernie suffered a bad injury against Queens Park in January 1969 and never played for the club again. He was released at the end of the season.
