Match Report

Ayr United's promotion hopes took another blow as they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Clydebank. Manager Ally McLeod must be scratching his head, wondering what's behind his team's recent slump in form. Two points from their last three games is a far cry from their earlier promise.

While a point salvaged from the encounter is better than none, Ayr will surely be kicking themselves for their missed opportunities. Time and again, United forwards found themselves unmarked in prime scoring positions, only to fail to convert. The first half was a case in point, with Wilkie seeing two decent strikes fly just wide of the target, while Ingram's headed efforts were comfortably dealt with by Clydebank's goalkeeper, Madden.

The profligacy in front of goal did not go unnoticed by the Ayr United faithful, who voiced their frustration with constant barracking and slow handclaps.

Credit must be given to the young Clydebank side, who stood firm defensively. Their central defender, Fallon, was a rock at the back, marshalling his troops with composure. Up front, Ian Hawkshaw looked lively and posed the most significant attacking threat for the visitors.

Ultimately, a frustrating afternoon for Ayr United. They failed to capitalise on their clear-cut chances and were left to rue a dropped point in their quest for promotion. Clydebank, on the other hand, can be proud of their resolute performance, earning a well-deserved point against a team expected to challenge for the title.
