Match Report

Dundee Courier

Brian Cooper, the Raith Rovers inside-right, and Eric Rooney, the Dundee United left-winger, both played well for the Scotland Professional Youth Select in last night's youth international trial at New Kilbowie Park.

Rooney was a live-wire and never wasted a ball, but like the rest of the players found the rain-drenched pitch taking its inevitable toll.

The game was a tremendous test of stamina, heavy rain churning up the pitch and making conditions difficult for all the players.

Caskie gave Clydebank the lead in 36 minutes, firing an O'Brien slip well beyond McCrae's reach. McCone added a second in the 55th minute from close range after Caskie had squared the ball into the middle.

The youth select kept battling away and McCarthy opened their account when he lashed a McEwan corner to the net in 71 minutes.

McCone scored a spectacular third for Clydebank in the 81st minute with a rocket shot from 20 yards.
