No second-half slip-ups from Bankies this time. They did enough to win without ever hitting top form. Clydebank fielded Hall at right back in place of Dennis Ruddy, who last week received a fourteen-day suspension.
A last-minute switch from Brechin saw Dick and Kemp, an ex-E.S. Clydebank player, swap positions. In the opening minutes play ranged from end to end, but the first real scoring chance came in the 18th minute, when a Kane header was headed off the line by Littlejohn.
Minutes later, a good shot on the drop from Caskie whizzed by the post. Brechin were working a frustrating offside trap, although some of the decisions against the Clydebank forwards were very close.
The plan backfired on Brechin in the 31st minute. Caskie broke through on the left and, with the Brechin defence claiming offside, he swung the ball over into the penalty area. Munro's first-time shot was brilliantly saved by Ritchie, but the ball rebounded to Wilson who shot low into the net.
Four minutes later Brechin had a real let-off when a Caskie shot rebounded from post to post and ended up in Ritchie's thankful arms
Clydebank started the second half on the attack. Jimmy Wilson had a fine solo run down the right, and Ritchie had to look smart as he dived at the winger's feet. Soon after, Ritchie fumbled a Caskie shot and had to scramble it clear as Wilson bore in on him.
Then Brechin had a goal disallowed. Kemp challenged McDonald and the ball broke to Dick who side-footed the ball into the empty net. Referee Crawford judged that McDonald had been unfairly challenged and awarded a free-kick to Clydebank.
In the 58th minute Caskie hammered in a shot with his right foot from an acute angle, and Ritchie did well to turn the ball away for a corner. One minute later Brechin substituted Reid for Cooper.
A bad Gray pass-back gave Brechin a corner from which a desperate goalmouth scramble followed. Brechin had certainly not given up.
Kane put Clydebank two up in the 68th minute. Taking a Munro flick on the drop, he blasted the ball high into the net, giving Ritchie no chance at all.
In the 80th minute Harrier was booked for a foul on Munro.
In the closing minutes, Caskie had a chance to make it three. He ran on to the ball after good work from Munro and Hay. He beat one defender, but the ball ran away from him into Ritchie's arms. This was no less than the FIFTH time Caskie had come close.
