CLYDEBANK let this game slip away from them in the second half after they had given Berwick the runaround in the first 45 minutes. Two quick second-half goals were enough to take the points over the border.
The game started ten minutes late when an emergency message was flashed that Berwick's coach had had a puncture on the way to Kilbowie.
The match was hardly a minute old when Alan Munro was on his back receiving treatment from the trainer after he had been fouled by Davidson.
Clydebank's wind advantage was seen in the sixth minute, with Peter Kane chasing a possible chance after a long kick out by keeper Mick McDonald. The Berwick defence mopped this up without too much trouble.
Munro sent Dougie Hay clear with a good pass, but the left-half's weak shot scraped the post. In the 21st minute Munro beat the 'keeper-only to see his shot kicked off the line by Berwick right-back Millar.
The goal was only delayed, however, as Munro scored one minute later from close in after shots by Hay and Bobby Love had been blocked.
On the half-hour mark, Kane just failed to connect with a spectacular dive following a risky pass-back by a Berwick defender.
Berwick's sole scoring chance of the first half fell to inside-left Keith just before half-time, but his shot went high and wide.
Clydebank were so much on top in the first half, that McDonald did not have a single save to make during the whole 45 minutes.
It was a different story in the second half. With the wind behind them, Berwick came more into the game as an attacking force.
In 51 minutes McGuckin equalised with a neat overhead kick after a cross from the right had left McDonald stranded.
Clydebank's play was scrappy now and they were hardly recognisable as the same side which had been in such complete control in the first half.
Berwick took the lead in the 62nd minute when Jim Fallon hooked the ball into his own net while trying to clear a Keith header.
Shortly after this Clydebank substituted McGhee for outside-right Currie who had made a fine debut.
Berwick were calling the tune now and almost increased their lead in the 72nd minute when McGuckin hit the post and then fell as he tried to net the rebound.
Clydebank put on a bit of pressure towards the end, winning two corners in quick succession. But Berwick survived this onslaught and the game ended with the visitors in control.
