Match Report

Although referee Jim McKee of Kirkintilloch sent off Shire's Hook, booked Clydebank's Kane and warned several others, it was, incredibly, one of the quietest games seen at the Falkirk ground for some time.

Indeed, this was typical end-of-season fare, with neither forward line really impressive. East Stirling lost the points because they scorned too many chances when on top.

In the first half Bankies were on the defensive with Hamill and Miller coming near on several occasions. Veteran Hamill, who came into the team after Jim Meakin failed a fitness test, shot over the bar twice from a good position.

But the nearest 'Shire came to scoring was when Bankies' Gray all but put the ball into his own goal, a pass-back forcing 'keeper McDonald to make a frantic dive.

The winner came in 61 minutes when outside-left Jimmy Caskie went through on his own and left Wood helpless.

Hook got his marching orders just 10 minutes from time after pulling down Kane, who had been previously booked.
