Match Report

The scene was all set for this league match - the sun shone, the pitch looked in fine trim. The stark contrast of each teams league position - Clyde 1st and Clydebank 17th - was markedly demonstrated in the early stages.

A nervous Clydebank defence began playing an offside trap, spoiling some threatening Clyde moves.

However, in the 16th minute, a long ball from full back Burns of Clyde evaded Gallagher in goal, and Millar made no mistake to put Clyde one up. This goal, due to the keeper's blunder gave the game the wanted lift.

Heartened now, Clyde, urged on by skipper McGrain made several good chances, but were impeded by their own poor shooting and keeper Gallagher. Between Clyde's attack, Bankies had, as they say, some near run things; on one occasion Clyde goalie Cairney had to bring off a laudable save to prevent McColl from equalising.

Desperately deficient of goalmouth incidents, the second half saw both skippers McGrain and McGuire booked. Both substitutes failed to give the game the jag it badly needed, and its curtain brought to Clyde that welcome two points in their promotion chase.

Cheers deserved for Bankies players must go to Gallagher, Fallon and Tuddenham; Cairney, Anderson and McGrain shone for Clyde.
