Clydebank, playing their first home league game this season, looked as though they were shocked when, after half an hour of play, East Stirling went ahead. A quick free kick from Donnelly took the Bankies by surprise, and player Stirling of East Stirling headed the ball past a wrong footed Gallacher in goal.
Previous to this, Bankies had had most of the play, but their forwards just couldn't turn this advantage to goals. It was, with the naggingly muggy weather, a frustrating and discomfiting spectacle to watch.
Clydebank's nearest goal scoring effort had been in the eighth minute. A good shot from the eager beaver Mike Larnach was just tipped round the post by Archibald. But it was, as said, only the Falkirk lads who scored in that first half.
Second round saw a sagging Clydebank whereupon East Stirling moved in to take full advantage. Centre forward, Dunne put East Stirling two up in the 59th minute and just a climatical two minutes on Stein made it three nil from a penalty award. Both theses goals were superbly controlled ,cool, clever, cleanly delivered.
Clydebank were reduced to ten men when Fallon was carried off (they had already used their substitutes) and Norrie Hall was also booked earlier for showing dissent.
One thing at least, the Bankies found no mean consolation from centre half Provan who headed home a good goal, not unobstructed, with only quarter of an hour left on the cards.
