Match Report

Watched by one of the largest mid-week crowds of the league season, Bankies were given a footballing lesson by this strong moving Buddies side.

The Bankies had no answer to the St Mirren waves of attack in the first half and completely wilted, save one or two counter attacks.

Once Millar opened the scoring in the 13th minute, the goals came at regular intervals.

St Mirren outside right McKean dispossessed Danny Gray, ran around him and crossed the ball past McDonald as the keeper came out. Fallon managed to head the ball out of the penalty box but at the feet of Millar, who slammed a low shot into the net,

Peter Kane, playing against old Buddies, had hard lines when he shot a rebound from a Davie Mitchell shot hard and high.

Just as the Bankies seemed to ha making a comeback, McLeod was brought down inside the box by Denis Ruddy. Ian Munro took the kick and sent McDonald the wrong way to put St. Mirren two up.

They almost had two more in the 29th and 30th minutes when McDonald had to save at the feet of Millar, and then Munro tried to lob the ball over the keeper's head, but his effort went narrowly over.

Ruddy, feeling miserable after giving away the penalty kick found himself even more in the doldrums when he scored Saints' third goal. He tried to intercept a pass from McLeod but sent the ball away from McDonald into the net.

But when the second-half started, it was a different story. Bankies seemed to find strength from their half-time orange juice and began to hit back. Their efforts paid dividends when Bobby Love netted at the second attempt when his first effort was blocked by Connaghan.

The Bankies really turned on the pressure now and in quick succession, shots from Clark and Mitchell hit the side-net and went narrowly past.

But that goal by Bobby Love proved to be the only one of the second half. If Bankies had played with the fire and verve in the first half that they showed in the second, the score-line would not have been so complimentary to St. Mirren.
