Match Report

Clydebank Press

A hat trick by outside left Bobby Tambling rocked Clydebank who were never able to get off the ground after that.

Chelsea opened the soring after five minutes through Tambling but two minutes later Bankies equalised through Frank Russell.

Tambling made it 2-1 at half-time and from then on the visitor had no worries.

The game was rough at times and most of the fouls came from the more "experienced" Chelsea. One of the worst offenders was John Hollins who for my money should have been sent off, friendly or no friendly. He gave centre Jim Fleming a very bad time.

If that's Chelsea's idea of a friendly game then they can keep it. Mind you, only one or two of the players were to blame but a team of Chelsea's calibre should not need to resort to these kind of tactics.

Daily Record

Chelsea with Bobby Tambling's hat-trick, easily beat Clydebank 4-1 in the friendly game as part of the Clydeside launching celebration at Kilbowie Park last night. English internationalist Tambling, a fiery inside forward who was wearing the No. 11 jersey, smacked in two goals in a 10 minute spell in the first half.

Tambling opened the scoring for Chelsea when he slashed the ball past the bewildered keeper Sandy McLachlan in the fifth minute.

Bankies fought back and equalised through right winger Frank Russell two minutes later to make it a sizzling start.

But danger man Tambling struck again. Roaming all over the pitch, Tambling picked up a pass from Scottish international full back Eddie McCreadie to cutely direct the ball past McLachlan.

From there on Chelsea dictated the pace, turning on good play whenever they wanted. For long spells it was shooting-in practice for the English First Division side.

But Bankles never stopped trying, although being out-classed.

Chelsea's third goal was from left-back Thomson, who nodded home a cross from the left. Then Tambling notched his hat-trick with a simple chance from close-range.

Chelsea manager Tommy Docherty brought on ex-Celtic ground boy Brian Goodwin, and pulled out Charlie Cooke. Goodwin showed fine touches and looked a good prospect.

Daily Express

Bobby Tambling got three goals for Chelsea in this friendly.

The game was held as part of the celebrations over the launching earlier of the new Cunard Queen Elizabeth II liner.

Chelsea showed the Scottish Second Division side just how easily Soccer can be played.

Tambling set the pattern In five minutes when he drove home a Colin Waldron pass.

Clydebank equalised two minutes later when Russell beat keeper Peter Bonetti.

But Chelsea with "I want away" star Johnny Hollins playing a brilliant midfield role, were in complete command.

Tambling restored their lead and Chelsea making the match a practice stint had several chances to add to the score before half-time.

Pattern was the same after the change-over and in 64 minutes Jim Thomson made it 3—l, Tambling got his third goal in 73 minutes with a cross shot.

An easy win for Chelsea, with Hollins, Tambling, and Cooke, before he was replaced, the top stars.
