A hat-trick from Bobby Tambling secured victory for Chelsea after Clydebank briefly threatened an upset.
Chelsea visited New Kilbowie Park for the second time in just over a month. The earlier match ended in a two-all draw and the blues were determined not to allow this encounter to go down the same road.
It was a real gala evening as the match was arranged as a celebration in honour of the launching of the Cunard Liner, Queen Elizabeth 2 from the John Brown Shipyard in the town.
The Blues took the lead after just five minutes through Tambling, but their joy was short-lived as Frank Russell levelled the score two minutes later for the Bankies.
Tambling restored Chelsea's advantage before half-time, and the visitors dominated the second half.
The match was occasionally marred by rough play, with most of the fouls coming from the more experienced Chelsea side. John Hollins, in particular, was a persistent offender against Jim Fleming and arguably deserved a red card, despite it being a friendly.
Clydebank will be disappointed they couldn't build on their early goal, while Chelsea will be pleased with their second-half performance.
However, Chelsea's aggressive tactics were beyond the pale, and were arguably unnecessary for a friendly match.
