Match Report

Clydebank, the high-flying First Division team, almost came a Scottish Cup cropper at Central Park last night, They trailed 3-2 to Cowdenbeath, a middle of the Second Division side, with only 10 minutes to go before two late goals gave them a smash-and-grab victory and a place in the second round, at home to Selkirk on January 8.

Clydebank opened with a flurry but seldom worried McFeat in the Cowden goal and Morrison came closest to scoring with a drive which scraped Gallacher's bar for the Fifers.

It was the same player who broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when he gathered a Campbell cross to put Cowdenbeath one up.

The Bankies hit back and, five minutes later, equalised when Lumsden nodded home a Cooper cross. The highly rated winger had found difficulty in shaking off Breen and this was his first chance to shine.

The second period opened with a bang. Hunter slipping past three defenders to put the Fifers ahead once more.

Back came Clydebank and McCallan nodded in a McColl cross to make it 2-2. Then Cooper came close to putting the Bankies ahead.

Cowdenbeath again went ahead in the 76th minute when HARLEY followed up Breen's blocked shot to shoot past Gallacher.

It looked odds on a cup shock with 10 minutes left but late defensive lapses by Cowdenbeath allowed substitute Ronald and then McCallan to put the Bankies through to the second round.
