St Johnstone kept their slim promotion hopes alive with a comfortable win over an inept Clydebank side, slipping nearer the relegation zone, at Kilbowie.
The wet fans had to wait until only the eighth minute to see the first goal. Saints' Tom Neil latched on to a Pelosi pass to send a vicious 20 yard shot wide of Gallacher and in off the post.
Both teams squandered scoring chances, but the Perth side looked more capable of adding to their early lead.
A minute into the second half, George Fleming was St. Johnstone's hero when he cleared off the line from a Jim Given drive.
The Perth side grabbed a second in 63 minutes, when a Clydebank free-kick on the edge of the penalty area was intercepted by Weir. His shot was blocked by Gallacher and McCoist netted from 10 yards for his 21st goal of the season.
Houston argued vehemently with referee Hugh Alexander over the goal and earned himself a yellow card for his trouble.
Caldwell added a third for Saints with a header in 77 minutes, before Blair Millar reduced the leeway with a fine shot three minutes later.
