Match Report

Clydebank snatched an unexpected draw at Kilbowie on Saturday when they surprised promotion hopefuls Motherwell in a dour display.

Neither side looked capable of beating two goalkeepers on top of their form and the 900 crowd yawned through this goalless draw.

What few chance there were went Motherwell's way, apart from two point-blank saves by Sproat from close-range Millar shots.

Motherwell's forwards struggled to find a way past a Bankies defence which had conceded six goals to Morton in midweek, and Ally MacLeod looked none too pleased with their display.

Fallon had to clear off the line after 15 minutes with Irvine moving in fast as Motherwell slowly took control of the game.

Well's McLaughlin got in the act with a shot just wide before he rattled the bar 10 minutes from interval with Gallacher, back in the home goal, well beaten.

In the second half, Forbes missed a great chance when he just missed a tantalising ball slithering across the Clydebank goal.

With only 15 minutes left and the crowd already heading for the exits, Motherwell were denied what would have been a vital penalty. Sharkey handled the ball in the area, but referee Mr. Downie adjudged that it had been accidental and waved the protests aside.

Soon after, Motherwell's new signing from Shrewsbury, Brian Coyne, missed the chance of the game, when he fired over from only 12 yards with no defender in sight.

Both sides threw on their substitutes in an attempt to score the face-saving winner, but the fans were denied a goal as the game fizzled out in the closing minutes.

Three players were booked in an often rough match Motherwell's Forbes and Carson and Clydebank's Houston.
