Clydebank missed a chance to get back on the rails following Saturday's Hampden defeat and, in fact they were a shade fortunate to come out of this scrappy encounter with a point.
Yet it all started so well for the Kilbowie men. As early as five minutes, defender Gerry McLauchlan blasted a tremendous shot high into Rangers' net to give Bankies the lead.
Really they should have tied the match up in the next 20 minutes but the final passes always let them down. It was to cost them dearly.
Ex-Queen's Park Rangers winger Davidson's glancing header from the corner stunned the pitifully small crowd into silence and two minutes later, in the 31st minute, they breathed a sigh of relief when a Tait drive came back off Jim Gallacher's upright.
After the interval, when stopper turned striker Barry Evans knocked the ball home, the homesters looked to be in control, but minutes later Lawson got free in the Bankies' box to scramble home the equaliser.
Bankies' midfield star Davy Houston is set to make his first appearance of the season at Shawfield tomorrow.
No one will be more pleased than boss Bill Munro that the link-man is back in the fray. The Bankies have sorely missed his dig in the vital middle third of the park, and his return should give their League Cup campaign a much-needed boost.
