Match Report

Two classic headed goals from dangerman John Bourke sent Bankies crashing to another defeat on Wednesday night.

But rather than look at the depressing details of a lacklustre performance, it seems a more constructive idea to look to the future.

Clydebank are now left with four "nothing" matches, starting tomorrow at Fir Park.

On the day when Motherwell are set to be crowned First Division champions, there can be no better place for Bankies to begin next season's assault.

They should make changes, freshen up the team and go out playing the kind of football to make the fans forget the disasters of the past 10 days.

For most of the second half on Wednesday, Bankies had Kilmarnock on the rack, and only a goal-line clearance and a great save by 'keeper Alan McCulloch stopped Bobby Williamson and Blair Millar scoring.

It's no coincidence Clydebank played their best football after the welcome introduction of substitutes Martin Hughes and Williamson.

With more strength, Hughes will blossom into a fine, skilful midfield player in traditional Bankies style, but Williamson proved once again what a great prospect he is.

In just over half-an-hour, he did enough to secure a place from the start at Motherwell. Or should have.

Hughes, Williamson and other youngsters knocking on the first-team door are the type of player that Bankies need to mount a challenge next season.

After Motherwell, Bankies take on Dunfermline (home), St. Johnstone (away) and Ayr United (home).

Encouraging results in all four games would be just the thing to boost morale, flagging after the end of this year's promotion run.
