Dundee kept promotion goal in sight with a pragmatic one-goal win over Clydebank at Dens Park on Saturday.
Andy Geddes did the trick in six minutes and, although Bankies prised open the home defence on several occasions, they failed to capitalise on scoring chances.
The Dens men got off to a great start when Ferguson forced his way up the flank and cut back the ball to Geddes who blasted a super shot past keeper Jim Gallacher.
Then a series of corners had Clydebank reeling. From one, a Scrimgeour drive from long range was brilliantly tipped on to the bar by Gallacher.
But Dundee wilted and Blair Millar became a busy man up front. He wasted two good chances before being put in the clear. Quick thinking by Dundee keeper Blair forced the big striker to lob over the bar.
The home side brought on Mackie and Stephen in a bid to widen the goal gap, but a stuffy Clydebank defence stifled the attacking moves.
Manager Bill Munro thought Bankies had been unlucky not to score and put this down to poor finishing.
"We could have had two or three goals in the first 30 minutes," he said.
"I thought we played some very good football and opened the Dundee defence easily on a couple of occasions."
