Match Report

Hibernian were given a rowdy reception at the final whistle for their 3-0 win over Clydebank at Easter Road virtually assured them of the first division championship.

Only Raith Rovers can deny them the title with a huge win in Edinburgh when the sides meet on Saturday.

Nobody could argue with Hibernian fans' chant of "champions" for they scored three goals in a marvellous first-half performance.

Gordon Rae opened the scoring after 15 minutes when he hammered home a loose ball on the edge of the Clydebank area from 18 yards.

Rae struck again in 33 minutes, this time running on to a header from Gary Murray and firing past keeper Gallagher from 15 yards.

Just four minutes later Hibs were three ahead thanks to the head of Craig Paterson. The centre-half beat the Clydebank defence to a free kick, taken by Callachan outside the area, and put the ball into the corner of the net.

One minute from half-time Gary Murray almost got his name on the score sheet when he beat the Clydebank keeper to a through ball but his effort slipped wide of the post.

Clydebank's Gervais was booked after 66 minutes and two minutes later Ally MacLeod replaced Hibs Jim Brown.

MacLeod played for the last few minutes of Hibs win against Stirling Albion last week after an absence of eight weeks through injury.

With nine minutes of the. match left, Gordon Rae might have completed his hat-trick when he reached a good cross from Alan Sneddon, but his glancing header flew just wide.

Treanor became the second Clydebank name in the referee's book a minute later when he was booked for a bad foul on John Connolly.
